I live in Ottawa, Canada and play mainly tenor banjo and fiddle. I host the Monday night session at Rasputin's. I play with the Ottawa Fiddle Ensemble, a group of amateur musicians playing a mix of Canadian, Irish, and Scottish tunes. You might be interested in the sound transmission in buildings pages I'm creating. If you are having problems because of intrusive noise from your neighbours or you want to "soundproof" a room in your house so you can practice without disturbing others, you will find some useful information there.
